The Long Beach Music Council was founded by music advocates Shea Newkirk and Eric Gray in 2013.
Our mission is to make Long Beach a music friendly destination and advocate for the benefits of incorporating live music as a major economic driver for our city. We are a community based organization comprised of passionate and informed music lovers that recognize the great economic impact live music can have on a city. We look to the city of Austin, TX as a shining example of what can be accomplished when you have a dynamic & open channel between city government and the music community.
We plan to accomplish our mission by exploring these general avenues:
1. Build sustainable relationships between the music community, businesses, and City of Long Beach departments and staff to incorporate live music, music friendly policies, and best practices.
2. Designate Area Reps for every neighborhood in our city to engage and facilitate the connection of city leaders, businesses, musicians, and the general public on topics surrounding live music in our city.
3. Strengthen existing and/or create new resources and tools necessary to increase the working capacity of musicians and entertainment industry professionals to facilitate quality music events, and catalyze growth of the local Long Beach Music Scene.
4. Define and create a plan for increased activation of public spaces for live music events.
